- Several grocery stores across North America and Europe saw up to 15% annualized energy savings, up to 22% coefficient of performance (COP) lift, and up to 460,000 gallons of water saved.
- For supermarkets facing rising energy costs and stricter regulatory requirements, these results demonstrate how the PX G1300 can deliver measurable efficiency gains and lower costs while ensuring stable CO₂ refrigeration performance during extreme weather.
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. – October 29, 2025 — Energy Recovery (Nasdaq: ERII) today released recent data from CO2 refrigeration installations across North America and Europe that demonstrate how the PX G1300® pressure exchanger significantly boosts system performance and helps supermarkets reduce costs. The data reveals that the PX G1300 not only lowers energy consumption but also ensures efficient performance in hot climates and drastically reduces water consumption when running in water savings mode.
The study results showed substantial benefits for supermarkets:
- Up to 15% annualized energy savings
- Up to 22% coefficient of performance (COP) lift
- Up to 460,000 gallons of water saved
The installation sites represented varied geographies and system architectures, including systems with adiabatic gas coolers, parallel compression, and heat reclaim. Regardless of the system specification, supermarkets saw performance improvements with the PX G1300.
“Supermarkets face a constant balancing act, needing to control costs, meet regulatory requirements, and keep systems running reliably even during extreme weather,” said Ricardo Freitas, Vice President of CO₂ at Energy Recovery. “The PX G1300 gives operators an edge, cutting energy and water use while helping systems perform through demanding heat wave events.
Multiple grocery store sites across varying climates were carefully evaluated during the measurement and validation process. Results are based on side-by-side testing at multiple sites, comparing system performance with and without the PX G1300 under similar weather and load conditions.
The PX G1300 is an innovative application for CO2 refrigeration, easing the transition to sustainable refrigeration. To download the complete paper, Pressure Exchanger Technology Driving Real Efficiency Gains in CO2 Refrigeration, click here.
