SAN LEANDRO, Calif. – May 21, 2025Energy Recovery (NASDAQ: ERII) today reported contract awards totaling over $7 million for its PX® Pressure Exchanger® (PX) energy recovery devices and pumps for several seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination projects in Spain. The plants will save an estimated 280.5 GWh/year, and 135,437 CO2 annually, equivalent to approximately 26,000 typical gasoline-powered passenger vehicles. All orders are expected to be fulfilled in 2025.

We will be supplying a range of PX models and pumps for these projects, together, the desalination plants will deliver over 330,000 cubic meters of water daily for both irrigation and drinking to communities across the Iberian Peninsula. One of the projects involves a major retrofit of an existing facility with Energy Recovery’s PX Q300 devices. This upgrade is expected to yield reliable energy and cost savings for the customer. The PX Pressure Exchanger can reduce energy consumption in desalination by up to 60% and boasts a 30-year design life, underscoring its long-term economic and environmental benefits. This project also reflects a growing trend to retrofit desalination plants with proven solutions like the PX Q300, as the demand for freshwater increases. Recent droughts in Spain have highlighted how climate change, combined with mass tourism and agricultural needs, can pose significant challenges for communities.

“The demand for clean, fresh water around the world will continue to accelerate,” said Rodney Clemente, Energy Recovery Senior Vice President of Water. “Energy Recovery is committed to serve as the engine of sustainability for a vast spectrum of advanced water treatment processes, all while minimizing the carbon impact on our planet. Our family of Energy Recovery products have been the energy-saving leader for seawater reverse osmosis desalination, and we are extremely proud to build on that unmatched legacy to help populations around the globe with diversifying and drought-proofing their existing water supply.”

The Energy Recovery PX reduces energy use by up to 60% in SWRO desalination facilities and with a 30-year design life, it’s widely considered the most durable and reliable energy recovery device available on the market.
