David Moon
President and Chief Executive Officer, Director
David W. Moon was appointed Energy Recovery’s President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2024, after previously being named Interim President and CEO in October 2023. Mr. Moon joined Energy Recovery’s Board of Directors in July 2023. Mr. Moon was previously President of Carrier Commercial Refrigeration (CCR), a division of Carrier Global Corporation, from 2020-2021. Based in Paris, CCR is a leading supplier of high-efficiency CO2 turnkey refrigeration systems and services to the food retail, processing, and storage segments and pharmaceutical segment in EMEA and Asia. Prior to that, Mr. Moon worked as an Advisor for Ares Management LLC on the acquisition of CoolSys, the U.S. market leader in commercial refrigeration and HVAC services. He joined the CoolSys Board of Directors post-acquisition.
Mr. Moon was President and Chief Operating Officer of Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration, a division of Lennox International, Inc., from 2006-2017. Heatcraft was the global OEM leader in commercial refrigeration equipment. Mr. Moon joined Lennox International, Inc. in 1998 holding various management positions in the United States, Singapore, and Australia.
Prior to that, Mr. Moon held various management positions at Allied Signal, Inc., Case Corporation, and Tenneco Oil Company in the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Germany. Mr. Moon served on the Board of Directors of American Woodmark Corporation from 2015-2020.
Mr. Moon brings 25 years of commercial/industrial refrigeration and commercial HVAC leadership, having served the global leaders in food retail, food processing, cold storage, pharmaceuticals, and telecom. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and an MBA from Texas A&M University.
Michael Mancini
Chief Financial Officer
Mike Mancini is Energy Recovery’s Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the company’s finance, accounting, information technology, and investor relations departments. Mr. Mancini brings over 20 years of experience as a financial leader, business strategist, and investor to the role and has a proven track record of leading finance organizations in high-growth, dynamic engineering and manufacturing environments.
He previously served as CFO of Astranis Space Technologies, a next-gen communications satellite company where he was responsible for building and leading the finance and accounting organization, raised over half a billion dollars of debt and equity capital, and played a key role in bringing this revolutionary new satellite technology to market. Prior to that, he served as CFO and Executive Vice President of Strategy for supersonic aircraft company Aerion Supersonic, where he led partnership efforts with leading global aerospace companies and crafted the company’s multibillion-dollar financing strategy. Prior to his CFO roles, Mr. Mancini was a private equity and hedge fund investor, deploying capital in both growth-stage and value-based investing strategies.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from Boston College.
Farshad Ghasripoor
Chief Technology Officer
Farshad Ghasripoor is the Chief Technology Officer at Energy Recovery, where he has been responsible for the evolution and growth of the PX®. Pressure Exchanger® beyond seawater reverse osmosis into a platform for products that span several new applications and industries. He has built a world-class engineering organization that has become the driving force behind Energy Recovery’s product development efforts with a focus on future derivatives of the Pressure Exchanger technology. He has been instrumental for the rapid growth and diversification of the business into multiple segments. He has extensive knowledge in various facets of engineering including mechanics of materials, fluid dynamics and turbomachinery in general.
Previously, he served as Energy Recovery’s Managing Director of Engineering. Previous to joining Energy Recovery, he served a 12-year term at General Electric Company, starting at the General Electric Global Research Center, where he led the development of abradable seals for steam and gas turbines. Dr. Ghasripoor also developed a solid particle erosion protection system for steam path airfoils, which is currently implemented in GE steam turbines to substantially extend the life of turbine blades. Prior to joining General Electric, he spent 9.5 years at Sulzer’s R&D division in Switzerland as a Mechanical Engineer leading projects to improve performance of large marine engines, compressors & pumps. He is the named inventor on 67 US patent applications, of which 37 have been granted to date, and has authored articles for 20 peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Ghasripoor earned his PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Brunel University of West London in the United Kingdom.
William Yeung
Chief Legal Officer
William Yeung is Chief Legal Officer at Energy Recovery, bringing extensive knowledge and sound judgement to the legal, corporate governance and intellectual property functions. Previously, he served as the General Counsel and Secretary for SharesPost, Inc. and a senior legal executive for Thomas Weisel Partners Group Inc. and Socialutions, Inc.
Mr. Yeung’s 20 years of experience encompass securities laws, corporate governance and compliance, corporate strategy, SEC reporting and regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and general contracts. His clients have included Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, Citigroup Global Markets, Lehman Brothers, UBS, Salomon Smith Barney, BNP Paribas, Del Monte, Sony Capital Corporation, McDonald’s Corporation, KBC Bank, The Interpublic Group of Companies, The Bank of New York, United Technologies Corporation, and Nortel Networks. He began practicing law at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York and practiced at Morrison & Foerster LLP in San Francisco.
Mr. Yeung earned a JD from New York University School of Law and a BA in Asian Studies from Boston College.
Matt Hostetler
Chief Human Resources Officer
Matt Hostetler is Energy Recovery’s Chief Human Resources Officer, leading the company’s talent strategies including organizational design, leadership development, and culture programs. Mr. Hostetler brings more than 20 years of experience in global human resources leadership across multiple industries including OEM, biotechnology, and consumer products.
Mr. Hostetler previously served as Chief People Officer of Sientra, where he oversaw the company’s talent and retention strategy. Prior to this role, he was the Vice President of Human Resources for Kite Pharma where he led HR strategy during the rapid scale-up of innovative cell therapy launches. He has also held global HR leadership positions with Gilead, Amgen, and Honeywell.
Mr. Hostetler holds a master’s degree in labor and human resources and a bachelor’s in business, both from the Ohio State University.
Rodney Clemente
Senior Vice President, Water
Rodney Clemente is the Senior Vice President of Water at Energy Recovery, where he leads the Company’s water business unit with responsibility for water sales, strategy and business development activities, as well as development and engineering for existing and new water solutions. A 20+ year veteran of Energy Recovery, Mr. Clemente brings deep experience in the water business and an intimate knowledge of global desalination markets, both of which have been integral to the Company’s global market leadership.
Mr. Clemente has extensive international experience with expertise spanning several verticals, including operations, business development, sales and marketing, and he continues to provide a high level of system design, technical consultation, and commercial support for customers worldwide. He is an active member of many of the leading industry organizations, such as the International Desalination Association and the American Membrane Technology Association.
Mr. Clemente earned an Executive MBA at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and a BS in Industrial Engineering from California State University, East Bay.
Ricardo Freitas
Vice President, CO2
Ricardo Freitas is the Vice President and General Manager of CO2 at Energy Recovery, where he leads the company’s expansion in the commercial and industrial refrigeration markets and related industry verticals. Mr. Freitas has three decades of executive experience in the global HVAC&R market with proven achievements in new markets, product development, manufacturing, sales, and R&D.
He most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Lennox EMEA where he oversaw the company’s HVAC&R business across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for seven years. In this role he was directly responsible for developing and executing HVAC&R strategy across sales, operations, marketing, R&D, sourcing, HR, and finance in order to grow revenue and market share in line with the company’s overall business objectives. He was previously General Manager of Lennox’s South American refrigeration business and served in various leadership roles with Carrier Corporation.
Mr. Freitas holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering as well as an MBA from Fundação Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Remick Hernandez Portillo
Vice President, Operations
Mr. Hernandez Portillo brings over 20 years of experience as an operation leader in the automotive sector with proven achievements in green field projects, new product launches, quality, manufacturing, engineering, and operational turnaround facilities.
He most recently served as the Director of Operations for Aludyne, a lightweighting solutions and components supplier to the mobility industry, where he oversaw the operation of two facilities in the U.S. and one in Mexico. In this role, he was responsible for developing and executing the overall operational and lean strategy across manufacturing, quality, engineering, logistics, HR, and finance in order to grow the bottom line and increase overall profitability. He was previously Director of Operations at American Axle Manufacturing, where he was responsible for its Driveline product portfolio in Mexico.
Mr. Hernandez Portillo holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from ITESM Campus Toluca, Mexico.
Kelley Vendeland
Vice President, Marketing and Sustainability
Kelley Vendeland is the Vice President of Marketing and Sustainability at Energy Recovery, where she oversees the company’s sustainability program, corporate communications, branding, market intelligence, and product marketing, and drives strategy to maintain a position of leadership in our core markets and expand to new ones.
After leading the successful launch of Energy Recovery’s sustainability program, Kelley continues to oversee the program’s development across all departments and geographies. Under her leadership, the program has been awarded an MSCI ESG Rating of “AAA,” and won IR Magazine’s award for “Best ESG Communications” and “Best ESG Reporting among small to mid-cap companies.”
Kelley joined Energy Recovery from Recurrent Energy, one of the largest solar project developers in the United States, where she oversaw marketing, community and stakeholder engagement, public affairs, media relations and communications strategy. Prior to Recurrent Energy, Kelley kicked off her career with NBC’s special projects team in San Jose, California and communications agencies in New York and San Francisco, with a focus on technology policy and communications.
Kelley previously served on for the board for the International Desalination Association’s Young Leaders Program and the Young Professionals in Energy leadership committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University.

Pamela Tondreau
Chairperson of the Board
Pamela L. Tondreau joined Energy Recovery’s Board of Directors in July 2019. Ms. Tondreau was unanimously elected Chairperson of the Board in October 2023.
Ms. Tondreau has over three decades of experience in the technology industry and private practice as a litigation and corporate attorney. In addition to her extensive experience navigating intellectual property, contract negotiation, domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, enterprise risk management, and corporate governance matters, she brings a proven history of cultivating excellence in company culture, ensuring diversity and inclusion, and establishing programs to grow and retain corporate talent.
Ms. Tondreau joined ON Semiconductor Corporation, also known as onsemi, as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer in Oct. 2021. Prior to that, from Apr.-July 2020, she served as a consultant to Infineon Technologies AG, which purchased Cypress Semiconductor Corporation. Prior to her consulting role, Ms. Tondreau served as Chief Legal Officer, Corporate Secretary and Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Cypress from 2014-2020.
Prior to joining Cypress, Ms. Tondreau spent 13 years at Hewlett-Packard Company in various roles, including Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to the CTO, HP Labs, HP Networking, IP Licensing, Strategic Initiatives, Global Alliances, counsel to the Technology Committee of the Board, and counsel for the networking business including leading the acquisition of 3Com and integrating the China entity into HP. In addition, she supported the Chief Marketing Officer, the Chief Information Officer, and the EVP of Personal Systems, as well as serving as Corporate Secretary to the Technology Committee of the Board of Directors. Ms. Tondreau began her career as an associate at Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges.
Ms. Tondreau holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a J.D. from McGeorge School of Law.
Alexander Buhler
Director
Alexander J. Buehler most recently served as President and CEO of the Brock Group, a leading provider of soft-craft services to the petrochemical, oil and gas refining, power, pharmaceutical, and LNG industries. From 2017-2021, he served as Executive Vice President for Global Resources at Intertek, a global, publicly traded company headquartered in London and major provider of assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services.
Previously, he served at Energy Maintenance Services (“EMS”) from 2014-2017, first as Chief Financial Officer and then as President and Chief Executive Officer, during which time he steered the company through the market downturn in oil and gas, repositioned the business as a leading integrity maintenance company, and led the marketing and sale of the business to First Reserve, a leading private equity company in the oil and gas space.
He became a member of the Company’s Board of Directors in Feb. 2015. From 2004-2011, Mr. Buehler held executive-level positions at Insituform Technologies, Inc. (now Aegion Corporation), a global leader in water infrastructure technology and services for municipalities and industry, including oil and gas. While at Insituform, Mr. Buehler worked in the U.S and abroad, most recently as Vice President of Europe, leading all European operations from its regional headquarters in Paris.
With substantial experience across industrial end markets (water, energy) including products and services, and multiple C-level roles at publicly traded and private equity-backed companies, Mr. Buehler is a highly impactful business executive with years of experience in leadership, general management, strategy, financial oversight, and operational execution. He currently serves as a board member and Chair of the Audit Committee for LiqTech Systems (NYSEMKT:LIQT) and has previously served as a board member and Chair of the Audit Committee for Viscount Systems.
Mr. Buehler received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Joan Chow
Director
Joan Chow joined Energy Recovery’s Board of Directors in 2021. Ms. Chow has extensive leadership experience in retail and marketing, consumer insights, and human resources matters, and has served as senior leader at some the world’s most recognizable companies.
Ms. Chow is the former Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at ConAgra Foods, now known as Conagra Brands – one of North America’s leading packaged food companies. Prior to that, Ms. Chow spent extensive time with Sears Holdings Corporation in various marketing roles, including Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for the company. She has also held executive positions with Information Resources Inc., Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products, Inc. and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Ms. Chow is a director at High Liner Foods and Spectrum Brands, where she is on their Audit Committees. She has previously served as a Chair of the Compensation Committee and a member of the Governance Committee at Welbilt, Inc., and as a board member of The Manitowoc Company, RC2 Corporation, and Feeding America.
Ms. Chow holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. with Distinction from Cornell University.
Arve Hanstveit
Director
Arve Hanstveit has been a member of Energy Recovery’s Board of Directors and an investor in the company since Aug. 1995. Mr. Hanstveit’s early investment in the company, his experience as an investment advisor and securities analyst, his understanding of global financial markets, the global desalination market, and his extensive knowledge of Energy Recovery’s products make him a tremendous asset to the company’s board of directors.
From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Hanstveit also served as a member of the board at Kezzler AS, a privately held Norwegian company that delivers secure track-and-trace solutions to the pharmaceutical and consumer goods industry. His 20 years of experience as a professional investor and analyst includes serving as a partner, vice president and secretary of the board at A&G Sundel Collins, Inc., a Scandinavian investment bank. Mr. Hanstveit also sits on the board of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the New York Angels, an independent consortium of individual accredited angel investors that provides equity capital for early-stage companies in the New York City area.
Mr. Hanstveit holds a bachelor’s degree in Business and Accounting from the Norwegian School of Management as well as a master’s degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Colin Sabol
Director
Colin Sabol joined Energy Recovery’s Board of Directors in July 2023. Mr. Sabol is an accomplished business leader, strategist and dealmaker with over 20 years of experience in the global water and energy markets. From 2017-2022, Mr. Sabol was President of Measurement & Control Solutions at Xylem, a global water technology provider. From 2013-2017, he led a wide range of global business at Xylem including Analytical Instrumentation, Water Treatment, and the Dewatering pump rental businesses.
In 2006, Mr. Sabol joined ITT as VP Growth for the Fluid & Motion Control segment, where he led the transformation of a mechanical equipment portfolio into a technology and services leader and was instrumental in effecting the spin-off of Xylem from ITT in 2011.
Mr. Sabol first entered the water industry at General Electric, where he served as Chief Growth Officer of GE Water from 2003-2006.
He served on the board of Faradyne Motors, a JV between Xylem and Pentair from 2009-2017, and was Board Chair of Xylem Watermark, Xylem’s corporate social responsibility program from 2009-2017.
Colin holds a B.S. in Materials Engineering from Alfred University.
