Frequently Asked Questions

The PX Pressure Exchanger works by capturing the high-pressure reject (concentrate) stream from a reverse-osmosis (RO) train and transferring that pressure energy directly to the lower-pressure feed stream. In effect, rather than wasting the pressure energy in the concentrate, the PX device recovers it and uses it to assist the feed pump work.

In the brackish-water context, this means you can significantly reduce the high-pressure pump’s energy input, because a portion of the feed pressure is supplied by the PX device rather than fresh pumping power alone. Compared to many older energy recovery methods, the PX offers higher isobaric efficiency and better flexibility under varying feed conditions.

The PX device is installed in the RO reject stream to capture and reuse pressure energy that would otherwise be wasted. It can be added to new systems or retrofitted into existing ones with minimal design changes. For best results, ensure the PX model matches your system’s pressure and flow range (up to ≈ 400 psi and 7–59 m³/h). The PX’s compact, modular design makes integration simple and offers fast energy-savings payback.

Integrating the PX device can cut energy use by up to 30%, reduce operating costs, and extend equipment life. Its durable, low-maintenance design ensures maximum uptime and consistent performance, even with changing feedwater conditions.
