Ultra High-Pressure PX™
Lower the cost of Ultra High-Pressure Reverse Osmosis (UHPRO) for ZLD/MLD requirements

Energy Recovery’s Ultra High-Pressure PX™ energy recovery device for ultra high-pressure reverse osmosis (UHPRO) wastewater treatment dramatically reduces the energy needs, costs and emissions associated with treating wastewater discharge with UHPRO. Designed with the pressure exchanger technology that powers our award-winning PX® Pressure Exchanger® (PX) energy recovery device for SWRO, the Ultra High-Pressure PX can handle pressures of up to 120 bar while delivering the superior performance our customers know and trust.
UHPRO is increasingly used in zero liquid discharge (ZLD) and minimal liquid discharge (MLD) wastewater treatment processes, as it is a more cost and energy efficient alternative to thermal brine concentration. The result: far less thermal brine concentration is needed to achieve the same ZLD and MLD treatment objectives.

Our Ultra High-Pressure PX makes UHPRO even more cost-competitive by reducing the energy waste of the UHPRO process, thus reducing the size of the thermal plant. The Ultra High-Pressure PX recycles pressure energy to the system, ultimately reducing overall energy costs and emissions.

Ultra High-Pressure PX Benefits
Projected benefits for the Ultra High-Pressure PX are based on Energy Recovery’s PX Pressure Exchanger, which is installed in SWRO and BWRO plants around the world.

Desalination
The world’s need for clean water is intensifying, driven by population growth, industrialization, rapid urbanization, and climate change. According to United Nations estimates, global demand for water will surge 30% by 2050.

Wastewater Treatment
Membrane technologies now offer an energy and cost-effective way to meet regulations requiring minimal liquid discharge (MLD) and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) for wastewater treatment. By employing energy recovery devices, those savings can be compounded while preserving system reliability and operability.
